Using Stedfast to create a curriculum plan

Using Stedfast to create a curriculum plan

We thought it might be helpful to put together a short example of how a school subject-based assessment and curriculum plan is developed in Stedfast. The example we have used here is a Year 10 History programme.

The first step is to create an assessment plan. As a reminder, assessment plans help set out the curriculum intent. They identify what learners need to know and how you intend to measure this knowledge. Users can also map these outcomes to other outcome sets and create cross-curriculum links.

After the subject objectives have been added, users can start to add the detail.

Teachers can identify the expected outcomes and set measures which form the curriculum intent

Later in the process, users are able to review their assessment plans to add findings and measure the curriculum impact.

The next step to create the curriculum plan. It should be remembered that curriculum activities can be templated to suit each organisation.

In this example, we have added curriculum activity fields covering the learning, sequence, skills developed and end-points, but it could easily be differentiation, supporting SEND learners or cross-curriculum links.

The depth and complexity of the curriculum plan is down to the organisation and teachers

Adding curriculum activities is a simple process. Users can set if the activity has learning, practice and/or assessment. They can align the activities with the objectives and outcomes set in the assessment plan. They then add the detail based on their template. The level of detail is left to the user. They can be more complex with activities listed on a week by week or monthly basis. Curriculum plans can be subject, module, skills or chronologically based.

Organisations can also check curriculum mapping which is automatically generated by Stedfast.

Again, by clicking in the L, P, A icons they are able to see the detail. Organisations are also able to embed their curriculum plans into their LMS or website giving visibility to students and parents.

Reviewing a curriculum

The final step in the curriculum process is to conduct a review of performance and analyse curriculum impact. The curriculum plan owner is able to set up a curriculum review and allocated measures to all staff that are part of this process.

Users add findings against each of the measures.

At the end of an academic cycle, teachers are able to review the impact and success of a programme

Once findings have been added to the review, users are then able to add improvement actions.
