We have been asked how users of Stedfast can demonstrate that they are delivering spiritual, moral, social and cultural development to learners on all programmes as it is an area that OfSTED will inspect under the Personal Development judgement (see section 219).
Inspectors will evaluate the effectiveness of the school’s provision for pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural education. This is a broad concept that can be seen across the school’s activities but draws together many of the areas covered by the personal development judgement.
How is this demonstrated in Stedfast?
There are a couple of ways to do this. The first is to create SMSC as a standalone Assessment Plan.
By creating an SMSC assessment plan, schools are able to define the outcomes and add measures that set out how each element will be delivered with targets or benchmarks. This assessment plan can then be reviewed on an annual basis, findings can be added and an SMSC action plan can be developed.
Users are then able to align subject-specific outcomes with the SMSC outcomes. In the mapping tools, they will be able to see how SMSC is being delivered across all subjects.
The second option is to add the SMSC outcomes directly into subject-specific assessment plans. We think this is a more useful way of addressing the SMSC outcomes as it means that the curriculum plan activities can also be aligned with these outcomes.
This allows users to align knowledge outcomes with SMSC outcomes.
